Calls for Lewis Hall's Inclusion in England Squad Grow

Lee Carsley faces a pivotal decision as he considers calling up Newcastle's talented left-back Lewis Hall for England's crucial Nations League matches, addressing the need for balance and fresh talent in the squad.

Lee Carsley has been encouraged to include Newcastle United's Lewis Hall in the England squad for their upcoming Nations League matches. England will take on Greece in Athens on Thursday, November 14, and then return to Wembley to face the Republic of Ireland on Sunday, November 17, as they aim to wrap up their Nations League campaign. With England currently sitting in second place in their group, securing just one point will ensure their advancement to League A for the subsequent rounds of Nations League A fixtures.

As Thomas Tuchel prepares to become the new England manager in the upcoming year, Carsley will be in charge of the last two games as the interim manager before resuming his responsibilities with the Under-21 team. This opportunity allows Carsley to try out new players, and there have been numerous calls for him to give 20-year-old Hall his debut international call-up.

Hall, awarded Newcastle’s Player of the Month for October, has made a strong impression with his reliable performances, particularly considering England's limited options at left-back. Stuart Pearce believes this is an ideal moment to give Hall an opportunity, as a natural left-back, to enhance the team's balance and prevent the errors that occurred during Euro 2024, where right-backs like Kieran Trippier were placed on the left flank.

Pearce remarked to talkSPORT: “Hall’s natural left foot gives him a distinct edge. England has frequently relied on right-footed players in the left-back position. After watching him perform against Arsenal, particularly when he faced Bukayo Saka, who is adept at exploiting any weaknesses, I thought he was exceptional defensively and displayed great maturity. He’s regularly playing for Newcastle, and it would be surprising if he didn’t make the team. He brings balance and has been reliable both in defense and attack.”

According to Pearce, Hall meets all the essential criteria. He is a regular starter for one of the best teams in the Premier League and has shown consistent performance, which makes him a compelling choice for the squad.
